Obviously then, games make very sweet gifts for guys who have game systems, and we will cover the best of them over the next few days.  This week there is something new! So….Without further ado, Sweet Gifts for Boyfriends gives you the release of Guitar Hero 5.

Guitar Hero news!  Guitar Hero 5 for the major system platforms was released Sept 1st and sales are large!  Everyone seems to love this game.  The game is available in formats for all of the top gaming systems.  You can read about it on the xbox site here.  I haven’t yet played the game myself however from watching my boyfriend play it, it sure looks like a lot of fun!   You earn points for your performance skills, so it seems you’d get a lot of excercise doing all that jumping , struting, and headbanging.  I can’t wait to try my hand at this game!

As for the music, xbox says “Guitar Hero 5 features a wide variety of the hottest rock ‘n’ roll bands and will be the most rocking Guitar Hero game yet with new social and interactive features”.  Guitar Hero 5 songs include a wide variety of music types.  I found many I’d like to play. “The entire Guitar Hero 5 set list is at your fingertips from the start, featuring genre-defining hits from more than 80 of the biggest rock artists and bands of all time, including The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Vampire Weekend, plus more than 25 artists from a variety of rock music genres that will be making their music video game debut.” So there sure seems to be something for everybody.

If you want to play in the guitar hero multiplayer mode, xbox says “With the game’s all-new Party Play Mode, getting the band back together has never been easier. Jump in or drop out of gameplay seamlessly, without interrupting your jam session. Elevating the Guitar Hero series to new heights with unmatched social gameplay, an enhanced style, and new in-game artists, Guitar Hero 5 features new surprises and challenges that will fire-up long-time fret board fanatics and create a new generation of fans.

Activision, the publisher of Guitar Hero 5,  is making its last big publicity push for the launch. The publisher has been announcing a steady stream of stars who will appear in-game, from Johnny Cash and Carlos Santanna to Garbage’s Shirley Manson and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine.

Activision capped off that list with the announcement that Nirvana singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain will be playable in Guitar Hero 5, performing the band’s breakthrough hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and apparently Cobain’s likeness can be used to sing a wide variety of non-Nirvana songs.  Cobain will also perform a live version of another single from the album Nevermind, “Lithium.”

Guitar Hero 5 will feature 85 songs pulled from a number of genres, including Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” Megadeth’s “Sweating Bullets,” and Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.” Activision is also running a promotion for the game where players who purchase specially marked copies of Guitar Hero 5 will get the upcoming Guitar Hero: Van Halen for free.

The downside seems to be that the Guitar Hero songlist of 85 songs won’t suit everyone, but hey, how were they going to please everybody?

Each of the systems has it’s own features that make the game attractive to certain groups of players.

By far, the most popular of the systems is Microsoft’s xbox so we’ll cover that one first.

Xbox 360 is the most popular of the gaming systems or gaming platforms. the Xbox 360 has cruised on to the No. 1 spot on the home console charts, with more than 10 million units sold worldwide.  The good news is, if your guys an xbox fan, he’s among great company.

Xbox in it’s newest version, is called “xbox 360 Elite”.  If he doesn’t have it, or perhaps I should say if he doesn’t have it yet, and he’s in xbox player, or he wants the most state-of-the-art gaming system, he will want to have the xbox 360 Elite system soon.  Are you thinking it would make a great Christmas gift for your boyfriend yet?

The new box is black, I really liked the matte black finish, very sleek looking.  It has a 120GB hard drive which is 6 times as much capacity as the previous version, twice as big as the PS3’s, and sports an HDMI output for easier hookups to HDTV’s.  What guy do you know that doesn’t want to hook up to the big screen for game playing when he has the chance?

As with the older xbox 360 versions, the xbox 360 Elite works as both a CD and DVD player.  This feature may explain how it’s made it’s way to so many living rooms.

The only real downside to this system is the price.  At a whopping $480.00, it is out of range for most of us ladies to snatch one of these systems up as an easy birthday gift for a boyfriend.  Hold on though, there is some good news on the price!  The xbox 360 Elite was originally priced at $480.00 but the price has recently been lowered to $299.99, the lowered price makes it much more attractive for giving as a birthday gift, anniversary gift or holiday gift for your boyfriend.
